CANCELLATION OF 20/21ST SEPTEMBER ‘BEC’ ROUND

PRESS RELEASE
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
SUBJECT: CANCELLATION OF 20/21ST SEPTEMBER ‘BEC’ ROUND

Southern Counties EC have received notification from the Forestry Commission that they will not now be able to use Ringwood Forest as a part of their proposed 2008 BEC round. The 20 mile Ringwood Forest check is crucial to the event and it’s loss leaves the organisers with no option other than to reluctantly cancel the event. The club have been working on preparations for this event for well over a year and are totally devastated by the news.
Speaking on behalf of Southern Counties EC Gary Warr said “The Forestry Commission locally have an extremely positive and supportive attitude towards all manner of forest based activities, including enduro, for which they should be applauded. However they have recently been subjected to a savage protest driven media campaign over their decision to create a small area for musical events to take place within the forest and, given the strength of local objection to the occasional relatively innocuous music event, they probably had little choice but to pull the plug on what is after all a pretty large scale motorcycle event.
Should the BEC round have gone ahead and encountered this level of protest we would have had to seriously consider the full ramifications of running the event, including the paramount issue of competitor’s safety – it might therefore be just as well the decision has been taken now. In spite of the disappointment Southern Counties EC remains fully committed to running BEC events in the future and has already started working towards 2009”

AMCA Hare & Hounds Championship kicks off this weekend!

This weekend Chiltern Hills Enduro Club will run the first round of the new National AMCA Hare & Hounds Championship series.

The event will run to the usual Chiltern Hills format – a fairly long lap (8 to 10 miles) and a 2 session race. One 2 hour session followed by a break for lunch then a second 2 hour session - the results being calculated on the aggregate.

Riders traveling from far afield should check with Chiltern Hills as there is limited camping due to the parking field being rather wet - riders that are camping are being asked not to arrive before 16:00hrs on Saturday.

SCEC welcome HERO to the team!

The GoPro Motorsports Hero is the smallest lightest wireless digital video camera you can buy. We love 'em! They're waterproof, mudproof and dustproof - in fact they're damn near bomb proof, and after months of playing with our own GoPro we are delighted to welcome HERO aboard as a technical partner for 2008. In addition to Championship series product prizes HERO have provided a full Motorsports Hero package for use at the races. We'll pick a rider at random at the pre-race briefing, attach the Hero cam to the lucky rider's bike or helmet (it only takes a minute) and leave them to it! He or she will get to keep a copy for themselves and the best bits will appear on the web for the world to see - fame and glory is yours for the taking!

Of course if you can't wait to win one you can always buy one - click the logo to visit the Hero website or get down to your local extreme sports dealer.

Hardy's Monument Hare & Hounds Enduro - 27th April

This is an awesome venue, perfect for a traditional forest event - what the marketing boys in Austria might call 'hard enduro'. If you fancy something a bit tougher than the norm this is an event not to be missed!

But this an event for ALL riders of ALL abilities, not just the fast boys.

In the morning we'll have the Championship/Expert/Clubman race, then after lunch a race for the Novice/Sportsman & less experienced Clubman riders, but this will be a race with a difference...

It'll be the very same course, a real enduro course, but here's the thing - if this is the sort of event that would normally terrify you we think you're actually going to love this one. Many of the expert riders from the morning race have agreed to go out onto the course in the afternoon and act as your marshals - but these 'marshals' are actually going to teach you all they know - if you ever wished you could ride in the forest as well as you do when you're tucked up in your bed this is your chance to make it happen.

To get the best out of the day the entry will be limited and entries will be accepted on a strictly first come first served basis - so don't leave it too long, get some dutch courage down ya and click the link below!

The Inside Park...

Andy Frost is off to build a new life in Australia in a few weeks but couldn't resist having one last SCEC race before leaving. He'll be taking happy memories of the magnificent Inside Park venue with him having managed a convincing win there on his borrowed DMC KTM300. K4's Bradley King was the only other rider to match Andy's 12 laps. Sideways KTM rider Mark Cornick lead the early part of the race but being forced to stop to repair a damaged clutch perch put him out of contention - in spite of a valiant attempt to make up the lost time in the end he had to settle for 3rd place.

SCEC welcome KRIEGA to the fold...

SCEC are delighted to welcome Kreiga aboard for 2008. Their biking/mtb rucksacks and hydration sytems are universally accepted to be the best you can buy. We lend them to marshals and use them during course construction - and if they will cope with that they will cope with anything! www.kriega.com

Inside Park course looks like being the best yet!

Having just returned from the final route-planning recce for next weekend’s ‘Inside Park’ event we reckon this year’s course will be the best yet.
Featuring a good 6 miles of flowing woodland tracks and trails the course has no ‘stoppers’ but plenty of features to keep things interesting and promises that neat trick of satisfying both throttle jockeys and those preferring a more technical event!

There are a few places left in some classes but parking is limited due to the date change (the original parking field has now been ploughed) so once it’s full it’s full – best not leave it till the last moment!

Introducing the British AMCA Hare & Hound Championship

Exiting news…… The all-new AMCA Hare & Hound 'Enduro' Championship series.

The fully backed AMCA 2008 Championship will be run over four one day events. If it is successful certain rounds will be two day events for the 2009 series.

The four main clubs within the AMCA will each run a round a piece starting with the Chiltern Hills Enduro Club on 6th April. Next will come the Cotswold Enduro Club round on 25th May followed by the Xmoor Club round on 31st August. Last but by no means least will be our own round, the venue and date for which will be announced shortly.

The format for these events will be slightly different at each event with each club running their event to their usual formats which will make each event unique the one thing that will stay the same is the classes. Regs and other details for each clubs event will be available in the very near future.

The links to these clubs can be found below and the awards presentation is planned for the dirt bike show with press and other media coverage to go with it.

So basically its up to all you riders to fully support this new AMCA Championship, get booked in well in advance so the clubs can gear up for each round. It is hoped that the majority of competitors will come from within the four clubs membership base so we believe all the rounds to be full well in advance - so don’t drag your feet!

All four clubs are willing to give this new series 100% and hope you are too.
Its different its new and there is the potential for some of you to call yourselves an AMCA British Champion at the end of the year in what ever class you ride in - the format is user friendly so give it a go!

Yours in Sport

Petition to suspend Section 6 of NERC (and re-open our "green lanes"!)

Please sign the petition at the address below, it will only take a few seconds.

http://petitions.pm.gov.uk/Suspend-NERC/

The petition says "This section of the act extinguished motor vehicle rights from "restricted byways". The effect has been to close half the rights of way previously open to motor vehicles.

Motor vehicles may now only use "byways open to all traffic", only 2% of all rights of way. Many of these are effectively closed to motor vehicles as they are classed as restricted byways for part their length. Motor vehicles, therefore, can use substantially less than the 4,500km of rights of way quoted by the government.

Rather than reduce the potential for conflict of use, noise nuisance or damage, the act may have the opposite effect as it concentrates recreational vehicle use on a smaller number of rights of way.

Early commencement of the legislation has left many rights of way incorrectly recorded and led to the loss of motor vehicle rights over many historic routes. Suspending Section 6 would allow highways authorities, user groups and individuals to apply to reclassify these as "byways open to all traffic", ensuring that their status is correctly recorded."
