Members update…

It’s been a disappointing summer race wise with many really nice events up and down the country (including our own July race) being cancelled due to a lack of confirmed entries - the growing trend among many riders to enter events at the very last minute is not healthy and when coupled with a general decline in entries caused by the recession often leaves organisers having to make difficult choices. Fortunately there is a simple solution - all it takes is for riders to enter in plenty of time!

The next SCEC event is scheduled for the 19th September and was due to take place on one of two new farm venues. Both are a mixture of maize stubble fields and woodland but as it looks like the maize won’t be ready to harvest until October they’ll have to keep for another day! Instead we’ve asked the Forestry Commission if we can run our Stonedown Forest event then, and subject to a couple of bureaucratic hurdles being overcome we’ve been given the go ahead - so fingers crossed and spread the word to get ready for Stonedown!

Those of you that don’t know Stonedown are in for a real treat - this beautiful broadleaf woodland on the Cranborne Chase has been the venue for some of our most enjoyable events over the past 15 years - you really don’t want to miss it, especially as sadly this will be our last visit there as the forest has been designated a nature conservation area - genuinely an event not to be missed.

As soon as we get the nod from the Forestry we’ll issue the regs, in the mean time spread the word and watch this space!

Yours in sport

25th July Cancelled

The event planned for the 25th July has been cancelled due to lack of entries - making 5 of the best events in the South being cancelled due to lack of entries over the last few weeks.
As many of you have pointed out, if we allowed MX tyres and pipes we could have filled the event 10 times over, but we don't believe that's the way forward. Sure trashed land can (sometimes) be re-graded so it looks ok superficially, but if it's not then left long enough to regain it's structure before you use it again (typically several years) it will return to it's trashed state almost immediately. We've proven time and time again that Enduro & Trials tyres reduce damage to the extent that re-grading is rarely required - Time & Nature working together are usually enough.
As to the pipe issue - well only a total moron honestly believes that the din from a 450 crosser on full chat is reasonable in an enduro environment.

Recession or not we will continue to only promote sustainable enduro sport - we hope you will support us in this and to this end very much look forward to seeing you at our next event in September.

25th JULY BULLMOOR FARM

With the spiralling costs of running events these days it is vital that organisers know in advance whether there will be sufficient entries to cover the event costs. Unfortunately alongside this is the current tendency to enter at the very last minute, resulting in events being cancelled across the country when they needn’t have been - "we were going to enter that one" doesn't pay the farmer or the medics!!!!

SCEC is not immune from this so if you want the event to happen on the 25th at Bullmoor Farm PLEASE GET YOUR ENTRIES IN ASAP

Hope to see you there!

Important News Regarding Wednesday 21st Evening Race At Rogershill.

Rogershill & SCEC have jointly taken the decision to run Wednesday evening’s race as a fun/practice event instead. With SCEC’s suberb new Bullmoor Farm event set for the following Sunday plus other local events on the weekend before and after that, many riders found themselves juggling loyalty with resources and that’s not a situation we feel comfortable with.

The fun/practice event will give those who need a mid-week fix the chance to get out there and have some fun without the pressure. All entrants will receive a full refund for their race entry and those wishing to participate in the practice event will need to contact Rogershill directly to book in.

With just 2 weeks to go before the next SCEC event at the fabulous new Bullmoor Farm venue, members are reminded that the event is now open to non-members too (members get priority and a guaranteed ride up till 2 weeks before each event).

Entry numbers are restricted to ensure maximum enjoyment for competitors so all those wishing to participate are urged to confirm their intentions as soon as possible to avoid disappointment.

25th JULY VENUE ANNOUNCED...

Bullmoor Farm near Axminster will be the venue for the 25th July. This stunning venue is owned by a Quad racer who's built himself a superb track on his farm. The track is very much along the lines of a sixties style scramble or 'point to point' circuit (but much longer!) using the farm's superb natural contours to full effect. Mix in a few miles of signature SCEC woodland paths and trails and the result will be a circuit we just know you're gonna love! Enter on-line or download postal entry forms at www.enduro.org.uk

NEW DATE CONFIRMED...

The new date for the next race has been set by availability of medical cover and will take place on 25th July. The venue has yet to be announced, the club are looking at 3 new super new venues for this event so watch this space!

SOMERLEY PARK LAST MINUTE UPDATE...

Final Instructions and entrants list (as of 24/4) for tomorrow's Somerley Park event are available for download at www.enduro.org.uk. Please read them carefully and help make the day enjoyable for all of us!

Please pay special attention to the following points...

Sign-on and tech inspection will close at 10 sharp

Correct front colour backgrounds are obligatory.

Enduro or Trials pattern rear tyres only.

A £20 deposit is required against safe return of loan/rented transponders. Note: Members can only borrow once, after then you must rent (£5.00) or buy (£15.00)

Riders must not exceed walking pace in any ‘Blue Tape’ or other designated ‘Walking Pace’ area. The penalty for failing to comply with any safety instruction is disqualification.

Goggle ‘tear-offs’ are not permitted at SCEC events. Start marshals will check for them on the start line - riders found to be using them will be penalised 2 laps.

Camping is permitted at the parking area, the land owners have previously indicated that they make a charge for camping but as far as we are aware have not done so yet.

We've gone for a nice flowing course with just a little traditional enduro going here and there for variety. Be careful on the fast straight running alongside the road, it's quite bumpy (especially at the bottom of the valley) and remember there is no need to ride through any bogs - if it looks boggy it probably is so just stay on the dry stuff each side of it - simples!

Finally this video is nothing to do with tomorrows event but if it doesn't inspire you nothing will!

That's it, l
ook forward to seeing you there!
