2011 Memberships Open...

Online and postal applications for 2011 membership are now available at www.enduro.org.uk/documents.html

Please help us by getting your applications in as early as possible as memberships are limited to the maximum number of places available in each class - not only that but existing members renewing their memberships before the end of January will also save themselves a fiver over the new members rate!

Don't forget SCEC is affiliated to both the ACU & AMCA and Josie will be pleased to countersign licence applications for both authorities.

Thank you once again for your continued support and look forward to seeing you next year!

BOVINGTON (28/11) GOOD NEWS...

28th November – Seth Stephens Memorial Hare & Hounds

We are absolutely delighted that response to this event has surpassed all our expectations and with nearly 3 weeks to go the original entry limit of 120 has already been exceeded. Fortunately the course, access and parking will easily cope with more riders so we've been able to increase the limit a little to 140 to allow a few extra riders to enjoy the event.

We want to make it clear that this new limit is finite though - once it's full it's full. SCEC and RMPEC share the view that one of the biggest crimes in modern day endurosport is cramming too many riders on a course and spoiling what would otherwise have been a superb event - we won't do it, and this is going to be a superb event!

Online or postal entry forms are available at enduro.org.uk - you'll have to be quick if you want one of the last few spaces!

28th NOVEMBER @ BOVINGTON....

28th November – Seth Stephens Memorial Hare & Hounds

We’re running this event in conjunction with the Royal Marines Poole Enduro Club in the memory of racer Seth Stephens who sadly passed away recently.

It will be a superb event incorporating the very best parts of the Mexe training area as well as the surrounding Bovington ranges, which is sure to trigger memories of some of the awesome races held there in the 80s. The course will be around 6 miles long and mostly made up of sandy tracks and woodland paths and is intended to be a challenging but enjoyable for riders of all abilities including enthusiastic beginners.

You can enter online or download postal entry at enduro.org.uk

STONEDOWN RESULTS ONLINE...

Stonedown Results...

Rich Warner, Gary McCoy and Gary Wright took the top 3 positions at today's spectacular SCEC Stonedown Forest event on Cranborne Chase. The course featured rather more in the way of brash, stumps and roots than some riders maybe used to, and a number suffered with punctures as a result, but other than that all went well. A superb days racing in perfect weather and not a single reported injury. We couldn't have asked for more! Full results online now.

Next Event...

The next SCEC event is being held on the 28th November in conjunction with our friends at the Royal Marines Poole Enduro Club (RMPEC) in memory of Seth Stephens.
This will be a superb event incorporating the best very parts of the Mexe ranges as well as the surrounding area, the thought of which is sure to trigger memories of some of the awesome races held there in the 80s, and an event we feel sure Seth would have loved. Regs and entry will be available this week from www.enduro.org.uk

2011 News...

First confirmed 2011 date/venue for your diary: 20th February @ The Inside Park. Other dates and venues to be announced soon!

STONEDOWN FINAL INSTRUCTIONS...

Stonedown Final Instructions & Riders List are now available for download at http://www.enduro.org.uk/events.html

Following the recent sunny spell the forest is in perfect condition and with a good forecast for the weekend it can only get better! Not only that but the fine weather has freed up the parking a little too so there's even room for or or two more entrants if you're quick!!

GOOD NEWS FROM STONEDOWN...

Good news! The recent works within the forest have given us the scope to create a much nicer parking area which is not only flatter and more centralised, but also slightly bigger too. As a result we can offer a few more riders one last chance to ride this beautiful forest event. If that appeals best find your way to www.enduro.org.uk/events.html pdq!

We are aware that some operating system/browser combinations are having issues with our paypal payment pages. If this seems to be affecting you please enter as usual and look out for the automated entry confirmation email which contains alternative payment instructions.

Look forward to seeing you there next week!

STONEDOWN ENTRY FILLING FAST...

Just a friendly reminder that time is running out to secure an entry for Stonedown on the 17th. There is a finite amount of parking available and the only fair way is to accept entries in order of receipt, sadly some will be disappointed.
The event is still over 2 weeks away but there are currently less than 50 places available!

14 September 2010

STONEDOWN FOREST REGS ON-LINE

Regs and on-line entry for the next SCEC event at Stonedown are now available at www.enduro.org.uk/events.html

This is a rare event which is soon to become rarer still as this is the last time we are being allowed to race here. The 6 mile route uses the network of superb paths and trails around this stunning broadleaf forest on Cranborne Chase to create one of the nicest enduro loops around. It's certainly one not to be missed!

Please help the organisation team by getting your entries in as soon as you're able and if it helps to spur you on, remember the entry is restricted by the available parking so once it's full, it really is full!

STONEDOWN UPDATE...

The result of our poll regarding the best date for our next event has been overwhelmingly in favour of the 17th October – so that’s when we’ll run it!

As you know this will be our last visit to Stonedown. Our first time there must have been 15 years ago and it’s been one of our most popular venues ever since. We’re gutted to see it go, but let’s not be negative – it’s a stunning venue and we have one more race there so let’s make it extra special!

Regs will be available over the next few days, please help us by getting your entries in as quickly as you’re able (don’t forget we don’t cash any cheques until 2 weeks so there’s no advantage to leaving it late). Spread the word and look forward to seeing you there!

STONEDOWN FOREST

As we feared it has not been possible to get everything needed together in time for Stonedown to run on the 19th September. We can however run the event on one of these dates and would appreciate your feedback as to which you would prefer…

  • 26th September
  • 3rd October
  • 10th October

  • 17th October

There are other localish events on every one of these dates (as there are on the original planned date) but we have to choose one and would greatly appreciate your feedback to help us choose. We have to decide quickly so we’d be grateful if you could please email your views asap to...

Look forward to hearing from you!

Members update…

It’s been a disappointing summer race wise with many really nice events up and down the country (including our own July race) being cancelled due to a lack of confirmed entries - the growing trend among many riders to enter events at the very last minute is not healthy and when coupled with a general decline in entries caused by the recession often leaves organisers having to make difficult choices. Fortunately there is a simple solution - all it takes is for riders to enter in plenty of time!

The next SCEC event is scheduled for the 19th September and was due to take place on one of two new farm venues. Both are a mixture of maize stubble fields and woodland but as it looks like the maize won’t be ready to harvest until October they’ll have to keep for another day! Instead we’ve asked the Forestry Commission if we can run our Stonedown Forest event then, and subject to a couple of bureaucratic hurdles being overcome we’ve been given the go ahead - so fingers crossed and spread the word to get ready for Stonedown!

Those of you that don’t know Stonedown are in for a real treat - this beautiful broadleaf woodland on the Cranborne Chase has been the venue for some of our most enjoyable events over the past 15 years - you really don’t want to miss it, especially as sadly this will be our last visit there as the forest has been designated a nature conservation area - genuinely an event not to be missed.

As soon as we get the nod from the Forestry we’ll issue the regs, in the mean time spread the word and watch this space!

Yours in sport

Gary & the team

25th July Cancelled

The event planned for the 25th July has been cancelled due to lack of entries - making 5 of the best events in the South being cancelled due to lack of entries over the last few weeks.
As many of you have pointed out, if we allowed MX tyres and pipes we could have filled the event 10 times over, but we don't believe that's the way forward. Sure trashed land can (sometimes) be re-graded so it looks ok superficially, but if it's not then left long enough to regain it's structure before you use it again (typically several years) it will return to it's trashed state almost immediately. We've proven time and time again that Enduro & Trials tyres reduce damage to the extent that re-grading is rarely required - Time & Nature working together are usually enough.
As to the pipe issue - well only a total moron honestly believes that the din from a 450 crosser on full chat is reasonable in an enduro environment.

Recession or not we will continue to only promote sustainable enduro sport - we hope you will support us in this and to this end very much look forward to seeing you at our next event in September.

25th JULY BULLMOOR FARM

With the spiralling costs of running events these days it is vital that organisers know in advance whether there will be sufficient entries to cover the event costs. Unfortunately alongside this is the current tendency to enter at the very last minute, resulting in events being cancelled across the country when they needn’t have been - "we were going to enter that one" doesn't pay the farmer or the medics!!!!

SCEC is not immune from this so if you want the event to happen on the 25th at Bullmoor Farm PLEASE GET YOUR ENTRIES IN ASAP

Hope to see you there!

Important News Regarding Wednesday 21st Evening Race At Rogershill.

Rogershill & SCEC have jointly taken the decision to run Wednesday evening’s race as a fun/practice event instead. With SCEC’s suberb new Bullmoor Farm event set for the following Sunday plus other local events on the weekend before and after that, many riders found themselves juggling loyalty with resources and that’s not a situation we feel comfortable with.

The fun/practice event will give those who need a mid-week fix the chance to get out there and have some fun without the pressure. All entrants will receive a full refund for their race entry and those wishing to participate in the practice event will need to contact Rogershill directly to book in.

25th JULY BULLMOOR FARM ENTRY UPDATE....

With just 2 weeks to go before the next SCEC event at the fabulous new Bullmoor Farm venue, members are reminded that the event is now open to non-members too (members get priority and a guaranteed ride up till 2 weeks before each event).

Entry numbers are restricted to ensure maximum enjoyment for competitors so all those wishing to participate are urged to confirm their intentions as soon as possible to avoid disappointment.

Look forward to seeing you there!

25th JULY VENUE ANNOUNCED...

Bullmoor Farm near Axminster will be the venue for the 25th July. This stunning venue is owned by a Quad racer who's built himself a superb track on his farm. The track is very much along the lines of a sixties style scramble or 'point to point' circuit (but much longer!) using the farm's superb natural contours to full effect. Mix in a few miles of signature SCEC woodland paths and trails and the result will be a circuit we just know you're gonna love! Enter on-line or download postal entry forms at www.enduro.org.uk

SOMERLEY PARK LAST MINUTE UPDATE...

Final Instructions and entrants list (as of 24/4) for tomorrow's Somerley Park event are available for download at www.enduro.org.uk. Please read them carefully and help make the day enjoyable for all of us!

Please pay special attention to the following points...

Sign-on and tech inspection will close at 10 sharp

Correct front colour backgrounds are obligatory.

Enduro or Trials pattern rear tyres only.

A £20 deposit is required against safe return of loan/rented transponders. Note: Members can only borrow once, after then you must rent (£5.00) or buy (£15.00)

Riders must not exceed walking pace in any ‘Blue Tape’ or other designated ‘Walking Pace’ area. The penalty for failing to comply with any safety instruction is disqualification.

Goggle ‘tear-offs’ are not permitted at SCEC events. Start marshals will check for them on the start line - riders found to be using them will be penalised 2 laps.

Camping is permitted at the parking area, the land owners have previously indicated that they make a charge for camping but as far as we are aware have not done so yet.

We've gone for a nice flowing course with just a little traditional enduro going here and there for variety. Be careful on the fast straight running alongside the road, it's quite bumpy (especially at the bottom of the valley) and remember there is no need to ride through any bogs - if it looks boggy it probably is so just stay on the dry stuff each side of it - simples!

Finally this video is nothing to do with tomorrows event but if it doesn't inspire you nothing will!

That's it, l
ook forward to seeing you there!

The GRIP LOCK CHALLENGE!

.

Pro-Clean have chosen the Valentines Day SCEC event at the 'Inside Park' near Blandford for the rider launch of their amazing new GRIP LOCK product. Fitting new grips can be a real chore - but with this stuff it's easier than falling off a log! The lads will be demonstrating the product during the morning and there'll be plenty of Pro-Grip's super new grips available so if you need new grips why not ask for a demonstration on your own bike!

Pro-Clean have supported SCEC events with product prizes for top three positions for all classes for some time now (and that's a lot of product over a season!) but to celebrate the launch of this new product they've been even more generous than ever. The battle for these prizes will need a name so from now on in the event will be known as the GRIP LOCK CHALLENGE.

SCEC 'GRIP LOCK CHALLENGE'
14th February 2010
