Pallington Forest Results...

Results from todays event at Pallington Forest are now online at www.enduro.org.uk/results.html

It was a hard event for everybody - after the wettest November on record AND the wettest night of the month on Saturday it was always going to be hard - but most of you finished and for that well done! And what about those marshals! Well done and thank you to everybody who helped or raced today - awesome!

Pallington Last Minute stuff...

Just a couple of reminders and notes regarding Sunday's event at Pallington.

Firstly a group of travellers have set up home on the track we are using to access the event - please be courteous as you pass by and keep an eye out for children and pets.

Regarding the event itself please don't forget the following:
  • Trials or Speedway rear tyres only.
  • Enduro or 'Q' pipes only. If your pipe has a removable insert please make sure it's fitted.
  • Please make sure you have the correct colour backgrounds - it can be difficult to overtake in the forest and knowing which class the guys around you are in will help everybody.
  • There are two 'expert' routes one of which has the potential to save a minute or two - but if you get it wrong you could lose big time. The choice is yours, but please remember that there is absolutely no marshal assistance on expert routes.
Look forward to seeing you there!

Pallington Final Instructions & Course Conditions

Final Instructions and Entrants List (the event is now full) are now online and can be downloaded from the here or from the 'Events' tab at www.enduro.org.uk.

Practical preparations are also well underway. The course has been very carefully planned, especially taking into consideration the fact that this has been the wettest November on record!

The vast majority of the route is in the forest proper and should ride nicely with just the odd puddle here & there reminding us how wet it's been, but of course it would be boring if it were too easy so there are a couple of slippery tracks (wet clay - that should be fun!) and various other little amusements. The only two areas of minor concern are the two small boggy ditch crossings which have to be crossed regardless (there is no way to create a circuit without) so a couple of log rafts are being created to bridge these - once covered in ply (and treated with just a little savvy) these should do the job - fingers crossed!

Pallington Forest update

  • Pallington Forest Entries: There are now only a hand full of entries left for next weekends event so if you're hoping to ride please be sure to get your entry in asap!
  • Course conditions: I know a good many of you are concerned about the rain we've been having but fear not - the upper levels of the course are looking about perfect with just a few puddles here. The lower levels are not surprisingly rather wet and depending on next weeks weather we may trim the course a little to avoid the worst of the wet & boggy stuff, still we're happy we can come up with a thoroughly rideable and enjoyable event and will post an update on course conditions (together with the entrants list) over the next couple of days.
All for now, look forward to seeing you next weekend

Gary & the team

SCEC/Rogershill Raceway ISDE team - Final Day...

.

Provisional Results...
  • Danny smashed his hand up pretty bad on day five but rode today anyway. He finished 95th overall C2 on 5:09:42.29. He's since been to hospital where they've set his hand in plaster.
  • Tyson finished 76th in the C2 class on 4:30:11.37
  • Wayne finished 30th in the C3 class on 4:30:34.23
  • The overall team position - 48th
The ISDE is the Olympics of motorcycle sport - the supreme challenge. These three guys went out there and rode their hearts out, they overcame all manner of obstacles and challenges, and they just kept going. In the end they made it through to the end and which ever way you look at it that is one hell of an achievement. Well done guys - we're mighty proud of you!

SCEC on Twitter...

As you know we like to keep you guys up to date with what's happening in SCEC land, but with so many social networks out there it can be difficult to keep them all updated!

The best source of SCEC news is still this news page - all our news gets posted here first and now you can even get the feeds sent straight to your email account if you like.

But now these feeds are also sent to our Facebook & new Twitter pages.

The Facebook page will now always be up to date (although Facebook won't send you an 'update' or notification that the page has been updated). With Twitter of course you'll always get it straight away if you choose - you can even get the updates by text. If you've not looked at Twitter before why not give it a go? - it's quick & easy to use, free and you can even get it on your phone.

SCEC/Rogershill Raceway ISDE team - Day 5

  • Danny 92nd C2 on 4:46:26.21
  • Tyson 79th C2 on 4:13:28.35
  • Wayne 30th C3 on 4:10:39.36
  • Team position 48th

Craig reports... "Danny hit a bolder hidden in a dust cloud whilst flat out. He finished the day and will finish the event but he's got at least a broken right thumb! He also managed to destroy his sump guard, dent his frame and knacker his clutch case which is leaking oil, the oil leak shouldn't be a problem. Most riders were just changing tyres in readiness for the final motocross tomorrow (including Danny with his good hand!), and Euan changed his front pipe. The constant heat / fatigue might be affecting one or two riders. On the final beach test today there were numerous crashes, the best go first and out of the first 100 or so riders there were probably 25 crashes. However the the general mood is the finish is within sight. A very short final day, a longish trail ride up to the motocross track where the event finishes"

15 October 2009

SCEC/Rogershill Raceway ISDE team - Day 4

  • Danny now 98th C2 on 3:53:43.42
  • Tyson now 89th C2 on 3:24:57.17

  • Team position now 52nd
Details to follow...

SCEC/Rogershill Raceway ISDE team - Day 3

Danny dropped 24 minutes today due to a broken throttle cable. The Purple Helmets helped to save the day, apparently the cable was repaired by tying a knot in it which not only worked but amazingly lasted the day! No problems today for Tyson or Wayne who both stayed on time.
  • Danny 107th C2
  • Tyson 97th C2
  • Wayne 32nd C3
  • Team position 61st

13 October 2009

SCEC/Rogershill Raceway ISDE team - Day 2

  • Danny is up to 67th
  • Tyson had gear selector problems but was able to repair the bike during the stage. This cost him some time knocking him down to 109th but he finished the day and is good to go with day 3.
  • Wayne is up to 35th
  • Our team placing has dropped to 61st

12 October 2009

SCEC/Rogershill Raceway ISDE team - Day 1

.

Danielle's update....

"After all the planning the event got underway under the soaring Portugese sun, Dan was first off the line at 9.38 this morning followed by Tyson, then Wayne. A fairly easy day on the going but a lot of sand was involved on the tests, with the final test of the day on the beach!

All riders finished on time and full results can be found on the ISDE site.

Time for rest and then off we go again tomorrow. A good day was had by all I think!"

  • Danny is lying 73rd in the C2 class on 44:37:60
  • Tyson is lying 59th in the C2 class on 43:09:61
  • Wayne is lying 45th in the C3 class on 56:23:61
  • Team placing 54th (of 91)

Tamsin Jones Dakar 2010...

Tamsin loves a challenge. Twice British Ladies Enduro Champion, twice best girl in the Red Bull Romaniacs, best girl in the Dawn till Dusk, best girl in the El Chott rally of Tunisia, best girl in the Turaeg Rally, and many of you have been well and truly thrashed by her at our own SCEC events! We like all that, so when she told us she was off to have a go at the Dakar, well we always knew it was only a matter of time.

It's a huge undertaking and she's well on her way but there's a long way to go. Take a few minutes to look over her website - and if you want to help her along you can do that there too.

Maze in the Maize results...

Sunday’s SCEC Maze in the Maize event was won by Paul Cowshall on his Future Racing KTM. The superb cross-country circuit incorporated a bit of everything, including several miles of circuit carved through 160 acres of 2 metre high maize crop.
The event was blessed with a full entry and perfect weather, and whilst not technically difficult, was reckoned to be one of the most physically demanding events of the SCEC calendar. Gary Wright and Dave Nuttall chased Paul home for 2nd and 3rd respectively while 4th man home and best Vet was Mik Hill (racing on a trials tyre). Jerry Box rounded out the top 5 to take best Expert.

Last minute Maze in the Maize news...

The course is cut and we're good to go! To put one of these together you need a very understanding farmer, some very careful planning, and a bit of luck. You also need some pretty fancy equipment - to cut the course through the 160 acres of Maize we needed to bring in a huge German built Forager (costing a mind blowing £100,000!) fitted with a special Maize cutter head another (costing another £35,000!). The cut crop, hundreds of tons of chopped maize, then has to be hauled away to storage by a team of tractors & trailers. It's worth the effort though and with the weather looking good too riders and organisers can't wait for tomorrow!

Look forward to seeing you there

Gary & the team

Busy September for SCEC...

Final Round of the Rogershill Summer series...

With the summer break nearly over and just a couple of weeks to go before for the final round of this most enjoyable and trend setting series the entries are now starting to flood in. This year the emphasis has been more on cross-country rather than moto-x style races, with the addition of the trademark Rogershill optional ‘extreme’ sections of course (each with it’s own alternative longer but less demanding route).
By popular request the final race will follow in the same pattern (only starting at 3pm on Saturday 5th and running till 5pm) however rather than rush off home riders will be encouraged to stay on and enjoy the early evening with us.

After the race there will be a short break (long enough to load up the van and get cleaned up) before race 2, a 1 hour truly extreme event which will give the normal folk amongst us the opportunity to watch the crazy folk amongst us (including some of the country’s very best riders) tackle the 1 hour Rogershill ‘extreme’ race.
The short course incorporates a fair bit of ridiculous going and could have been designed purely with crazed spectators in mind! (but if you would rather ride it than watch it, no worries - just let us know). The course for this spectacular event is only a short walk from the parking area. It’s hoped the race will provide a highly sociable and enjoyable end to the summer series and a couple of huge barbeques will be available trackside for all to use (bring your own meat and be our guest!).
If you've been to Rogershill recently you can't have missed the diggers and dumpers frantically doing their stuff - Danny and his team have been working hard both to improve the facilities available there and to make the final event of this year’s Rogershill Summer series the best yet – if you’ve not been yet why not come along and see what you’ve been missing!

Results on-line now...

‘Maze in the Maize’ @ Milton Abbas...

Preparations are now well underway for this unique event. The Bramblecombe Farm venue is renowned for it’s combination of superb cross-country going and technical woodland sections and has provided us with some superb racing over the last few years. As the name implies, this year’s event will also feature several miles of ‘maze in the maize’ going which allows us to quite literally carve a course through the maize.
It’s an amazing riding experience, we can utilise the farms plentiful contours to best effect and the course will follow the intended route throughout the entire event (the 2 metre plus high maize stops even the most determined course cutter in his tracks!).

This event is going to be something else - all the pieces are in place to make this one of the best events of the year anywhere - don't miss it!

Entries for both events are on the club website (www.enduro.org.uk/events.html) - just follow the links from the events tab.

Look forward to seeing you out there!

September 13th Ansty 'Maze in the Maize'

Regs are now available for the unique SCEC 'Maze in the Maize' Hare & Hounds event at Ansty in Dorset on the 13th September.

This immensely enjoyable concept was pioneered by SCEC some years ago and as the name suggests large parts of the course are carved out of the 2 metre high maize crop. When added to the superb and varied cross-country terrain available at the Bramblecombe Farm venue the result is stunning!

Enter online or download a set of postal regs from the usual place - www.enduro.org.uk

2009 ISDE...

Team SCEC/Rogershill Raceway are off to Portugal. The team are proud to have been selected as one of the few club teams to represent the UK and will start training and fund raising with immediate effect. Yee Haa!

21 July 2009

September Maze in the Maize date change...

In order to comply with our land owners wishes (and to have a better chance of a 'Maze in the Maize' as opposed to a 'stubble cross') our event scheduled for 20th September is having to be brought forward a week and will now take place on the 13th.

After discussions with TnT it seems that they too have had to change their date in order to comply with their land owners wishes and they too are restricted to running their event on the 13th. Both organisations have tried to find alternative dates but sadly this has not been possible.

We apologise to those riders who were hoping to race both events but regret that on this occasion the clash is unavoidable.

6 July 2009

"Your not 'avin our mud" my arse! (we brought tons of the suff back)

While Andy, Mark & Danny messed around with diggers and dumpers at Rogershill (see below) another contingent of SCEC lads headed up to Wales for the Powys. It being Wales it rained, but nobody seemed to notice and everybody had a ball. Three of the lads who had also been planning to go had to stay at home due to various injuries, including broken ribs sustained whilst laying out the Shillingstone course (Ivan), a broken collarbone sustained while racing just a bit too fast around Shillingstone (Paul) and piles which we don't know (or want to know) how rider 'x' sustained!

Rogershill Raceway Summer Series update

Preparations for round 2 of this trend setting series are now well underway. Andy Claxton pulled out his iPhone and snapped this shot of Mark Cornick trying out one of the optional new extreme sections they'd built over the weekend.

The last race was heavily oversubscribed with riders lucky enough to get a ride reporting back that the course was by far the best there yet. The next one will be even better!

4 June 2009

Shillingstone Forest Hare & Hounds (aka Bluebell Enduro) 28th June

The beautiful forest in the heart of Dorset provides enduro riders with a taste of the good life. Meandering paths, fast fire-roads, winding nadgery trails, and huge hills. It's all there and with a good 8 mile loop there's enough of it to go round. Carl Tiley justified the trip down and took the overall win ahead of local hotshot Mark Cornick. Tyson Maytom-Jones took the Expert win and with it the 'Lee Wheatley Memorial Trophy'. The racing in the Vets class was nail biting stuff with Craig Beattie and Martin Brown arriving at the scanning point for the final time together - they were awarded joint first with local lad Glen Axon within spitting distance. Andy Claxton fought his way through following a poor start to take the Clubman E2 class while Jet Ski wizz kid and newcomer to the sport Jake Forward dominated the E1 class. The Ladies class was won by Dakar hopeful Tamsin Jones, but it took her till the last lap to get by Clare Taylor. Full report to follow....

Rogershill Raceway Summer evening series

The first (and still the best!) summer evening Hare & Hounds series, this years will have a twist in that the final round will take place on a Saturday afternoon and will be run as a Moto-Duro event. • Enduro Vets
  • Enduro Clubman/Ladies
  • Enduro Sportsman/Novice
  • Moto-X

All three rounds will count and points will be awarded as per the S.C.O.R.E. series (1 point for 1st, 2 for 2nd etc. with the winner being the rider with the least points at the end of the series)

1973 'Cross Country' video

'Hare' Racing is not a new sport. When we started running events nearly a decade and a half ago we just copied what we'd seen in France, Belgium and the States. Even those early events were heavily oversubscribed with 450 plus entries being the norm for the 120 to 240 available places depending on the venue and some were even featured on mainstream TV. But if we thought we'd found something new, not a chance! - events like the Sunbeam 'Point to Point' races of the fifties had long before introduced 'Hare Scramble' style events to the masses with amazing racing and superb 'video' coverage even then.
So what's all this about? Well we came across this video recently from 1973, take a look you'll see what we mean - nothing's new (not even auto-clutches, look out for the belt slipping on the 'Rokon' automatic after the stream crossing). Enjoy the video, Enjoy their ride!

16 March 2009

Somerley Park 3rd May

AMCA "Rock Oil" Championship series.

Golden Tyre Deals for SCEC members...

We have arranged a very special deal for members with our friends at Golden Tyre giving club riders the chance to purchase premium quality enduro tyres at extremely attractive prices:

Front = £35.00
Rear 120 = £40.00
Rear 140 = £45.00

These prices are for the competition spec tyres which easily match the performance of the established premium brands, and at these prices are astonishing value.

They are inclusive of VAT and delivery to the races but postage can be arranged by special arrangement.

Golden Tyre also produce their own ‘Mousse’. They’ve been testing them on the World and European Championship circuit for several years now, they are very well proven and will soon be available to private riders . They too will be available to members at extremely attractive prices.

New classes for SCEC 2009...

The long established annual SCEC series has 2 new classes as well as a new name for 2009.

The new ladies class has attracted considerable interest from some of the country’s top lady racers while the new youth class will give lads and lasses from 15 to 17 the chance to mix it with the old men. Subject to individual approval experienced 14 year olds can also join in the fun.

Already one of the most hotly contested and highly regarded series in the country, the new classes together the new scoring system and the various other little tweaks introduced for 2009 should make it even more enjoyable and help maintain it’s popularity.

As we go to press there are still a few places left for the first round at the fabulous 'Inside Park' - full info at www.enduro.org.uk

Date clash latest (and final !) news...

There has been considerable ongoing speculation and ill feeling over the re-scheduling of the 8th February Track & Trail race to the 1st of March, the same date as the first round of our 2009 series at the awesome ‘Inside Park’.

The disappointment everybody can understand (and there could be any number of totally plausible reasons why they might want to run their event then) but to suggest as they have done in recent web statements that we are in anyway responsible for the resultant date clash is totally unacceptable.

As most of you are aware, we already re-arranged our entire published race calendar this year (for the second year in a row) in an attempt to avoid date clashes with Track & Trail. In addition whenever circumstances beyond our control suggest last minute date changes might be necessary we immediately contact any other clubs likely to be affected to see if some solution can be found. In most cases other clubs will do all they can to help (as we would - we are all on the same side after all!) but in the case of Track & Trail we have only ever encountered complete intransigence.

Usually we just bite our tongue but this time the situation has gone too far. To try and paint us as the bad guys in all this is taking modern marketing techniques or spin just a bit too far.

That sorted we can now get back to doing what we do best and we look forward to seeing you at the Inside Park!

Enjoy the ride!
