Shillingstone Forest Hare & Hounds (aka Bluebell Enduro) 28th June

The beautiful forest in the heart of Dorset provides enduro riders with a taste of the good life. Meandering paths, fast fire-roads, winding nadgery trails, and huge hills. It's all there and with a good 8 mile loop there's enough of it to go round. Carl Tiley justified the trip down and took the overall win ahead of local hotshot Mark Cornick. Tyson Maytom-Jones took the Expert win and with it the 'Lee Wheatley Memorial Trophy'. The racing in the Vets class was nail biting stuff with Craig Beattie and Martin Brown arriving at the scanning point for the final time together - they were awarded joint first with local lad Glen Axon within spitting distance. Andy Claxton fought his way through following a poor start to take the Clubman E2 class while Jet Ski wizz kid and newcomer to the sport Jake Forward dominated the E1 class. The Ladies class was won by Dakar hopeful Tamsin Jones, but it took her till the last lap to get by Clare Taylor. Full report to follow....

1973 'Cross Country' video

'Hare' Racing is not a new sport. When we started running events nearly a decade and a half ago we just copied what we'd seen in France, Belgium and the States. Even those early events were heavily oversubscribed with 450 plus entries being the norm for the 120 to 240 available places depending on the venue and some were even featured on mainstream TV. But if we thought we'd found something new, not a chance! - events like the Sunbeam 'Point to Point' races of the fifties had long before introduced 'Hare Scramble' style events to the masses with amazing racing and superb 'video' coverage even then.
So what's all this about? Well we came across this video recently from 1973, take a look you'll see what we mean - nothing's new (not even auto-clutches, look out for the belt slipping on the 'Rokon' automatic after the stream crossing). Enjoy the video, Enjoy their ride!
